How it works
Sell or win, the Kalokalo way
Kalokalo ("star" in Fijian) is a marketplace where people in Fiji sell anything they own by auction or raffle.
Auctions
- The seller lists the item with a starting bid and a required minimum price. Bidders never see the figure, only whether it is met or not met yet.
- Bids are binding. A bid in the last 2 minutes extends the auction by 2 minutes, so nobody wins by sniping.
- If the highest bid reaches the minimum price, the item sells. The winner pays a 10% deposit within 48 hours; funds are held in escrow until handover.
Raffles
- The seller sets a ticket price, number of tickets and a required minimum price. Tickets × price must be at least the minimum.
- If ticket sales reach the minimum when the raffle closes, a winner is drawn. If not, every buyer is refunded automatically.
- Instant draw (prizes under FJD 5,000): the system picks a random winner at close and publishes a draw record anyone can verify.
Live draw (FJD 5,000 and over): streamed on video with an independent witness; the ticket list is published an hour before.
Trust
Sellers are ID-checked. Property lots need a title document. Every listing is reviewed before it goes live. Payments are held in escrow until handover.
